Ann Statham Will (1791) This is not strictly Ann Statham's will as she died intestate, so this document is her husband William applying to be the administrator of her estate. William and Mary are Robert Steatham's grandparents. [my comments are enclosed in brackets]. On the left are the line numbers...

A surrogate is a person acting on behalf of someone else or as a substitute We see Richard Buckeridge being baptised at St Mary's Lichfield (in the market square) on Thursday the 2nd May 1765, his father being the Rev'd Theophilus Buckeridge. Richard went obtained a B.A. at Oxford (St Johns) he then went on to gain SCL [whatever that means] and LLB and was ordained as a priest at Eccleshall and in 1789 a priest / vicar at Lichfield cathedral. He was in his time Vicar at Hope, Rector at Beighton (Norfolk) and Perpetual Curate at Stone and Eccleshall. Richard died in 1824 aged fifty nine, and was buried on Tuesday the 8th June 1824 at St Michael, Stone, Staffs. Richard Buckeridge (clerk) on the 5th January 1792 was married by Henry White Sacrist of Lichfield to a Mary Wright at St Mary's, Lichfield. They had had four children... #1) George Buckeridge born 1797 was baptised at St John's Hospital, he died 1863 and was buried on Saturday the 19th December 1863, abode given as St John's Lichfield aged sixty six, at Christ Church Lichfield. There is a monumental inscription for the Revd. George Buckeridge at Christ Church which I need to obtain. #2) Richard Buckeridge born 1799 and was baptised on Wednesday the 7th August 1799 at St Michael Lichfield. Like his father he attended St Johns Oxford, BA. He was Stipendiary Curate at Beighton and was Chaplain at Stafford County Gaol & House of Correction and Lunatic Asylum. He was also a domestic chaplain to the Right Honorable the Lord Oriel and the Provincial Grand Chaplain at Stafford for the Masons (1833). #3) Catherine Anne died 5th May 1842 stated as the second daughter of the late Revd. Richard Buckeridge #4) Elizabeth married in 1836 at Wellsborne Capt. E. L. Durant Esq. of the 3rd Madras Light Infantry of Tong castle. #5) Louisa Lutitia Marian Buckeridge we see in the Lichfield Mercury 19 February 1886 - DEATH BUCKERIDGE.-February 6th, 1886, at her residence, The Close, Lichfield, Louisa Lutitia Marian Buckeridge, daughter of the the late Rev. Richard Buckeridge, Vicar of Edingale and Rector of Stone, Saffordshire, and sister of the late Rev. George Buckeridge, formely Master of St. John's Hospital, Lichfield, aged 72 years. Richard Buckeridge's father Theophilus Buckeridge M.A. was the master of St John's Hospital, Lichfield from 1769 to 1821 and Rector of Gresham, Bessingham, Mautby and Perpectual Curate at Tong, Shropshire. We see in "Bell's New Weekly Messenger 17 December 1843" Declarations of Bankruptcy a Richard Buckeridge, Forebridge, Stafford, clerk. Theophilus Buckeridge's other son Charles entered St Johns Oxford aged just sixteen and went on to obtain a BA 1776, MA 1781, BD 1791, DD 1807 and coincidentally he was a Curate at Tatenhill in 1779-1783. He married Catherine who died aged twenty five in 1787. He also followed his father and went on to be a Perpetual Curate at Tong, Shropshire. His Wikipedia entry reads... Charles Buckeridge (b Lichfield 3 June 1756 d Coventry 29 October 1827) was an English churchman, Archdeacon of Coventry from 14 March 1816 until his death. He was the son of Theophilus Buckeridge of Lichfield, a cleric and Master of St John's Hospital there, and was educated at St John's College, Oxford, matriculating in 1772, and graduating B.A. in 1776, M.A. 1781, B.D. 1791, and D.D. in 1807. He held livings in Pembrokeshire, Glamorganshire and the West Midlands. In 1807 he became Precentor of Lichfield Cathedral. He was twice married, firstly to Catherine Hussey, to whom a memorial by Richard Westmacott was placed in the cathedral, and secondly to Elizabeth Slaney. Theophilus Buckeridge was baptised on ? the 1st August 1724 at Lichfield Cathedral to a Wild Buckeridge. Wild then had other children, George (1725), Rebecca (1726), John (1727), George (1729) and finally William (1735). Wild Buckeridge was baptised on ? the 21st August 1695 at St Mary's Lichfield to a William? Ralph Buckridge. So interestingly just like with our Robert Steatham where an e was added we have the same with Buckridge at Lichfield, so we have to two branches going forward the Buckridges (like Statham) and the Buckeridges (like Steatham) starting with Wild Buckridge's children, but I am sure in their case they pronounced then differently, possibly [Buck ridge] [Bucker ridge]. Theophilus Buckeridge did have a daughter Elizabeth who was baptised St Mary's, Lichfield on Thursday the 16th August 1759. Steatham.com All Rights Reserved. |
